What I have found, particularly while working in a consulting capacity on my clients’ launches, is that me telling them what to do and how to do it is only half of the work we do together.
Mindset is the other half.
You may have heard that launches are famous for bringing buried shit up. Some people fall ill during launches, others have their laptops stop working all of a sudden, etc. But this ugly stuff doesn’t happen just during the open registration period. In a milder form, it happens during the launch preparation phase too. And sometimes even in the planning phase.
If you find yourself
- working on anything else but your launch tasks, or
- spending too much time on your sales page because it has to be perfect, or
- you suddenly become overwhelmed with client work and have little to no time for your launch prep
…chances are that your unconscious fears are running the show.
When I sense that a client has come to a halt (I use my intuition a lot in my work) or I ask them certain questions that bring me to the conclusion that they are procrastinating, I take out the Fear Inventory exercise out of my toolbox.
I learnt about the Fear Inventory exercise from my first online mentor and I have been using it since.
I believe that Carolyn Elliot is the one who created this exercise. Here’s how I use it with my clients:
- Take a piece of paper and pen or open a Word or Google doc.
- Write this prayer down and fill in the blanks
“Dear God [or Universe, etc.- however you like to address divinity],
I hate and resent _________ [fill in the blank with something you think you really want]….
… because I have deep fear that I _____________ [fill in the blank]
… because I have deep fear that I ______________
… because I have deep fear that I _______________
(write at least 20 deep fears).
3. After you’ve written the 20 fears, write the following prayer:
“[God], I ask that you remove these fears. I pray only for knowledge of your will for me and the power to carry it out. Amen.”
Now, with these fears brought into the conscious, we are able to see them for what they are (fears that are trying to keep us safe) and release them. Some fears are beneficial ( like stopping you from running in front of a moving car), while others aren’t (like posting on social media for your business because the old lady down the road may think that you are not good enough).
Become aware of what’s running you so that you can take control and have the stress-free and profitable launch that you desire.
